Elizabeth Norris Smith was born in Holmes county, Ohio, November 14, 1821, and died in Afton, October 19, 1908. She came to Iowa with her husband, Lewis Smith in 1856.

She was the mother of four children, three of whom are living, Sarah A. Foster, Nelson, Neb., Jas. Smith of Madison county, and Perry F. Smith, of South Dakota.

Her home was with her son, James, in Madison county, but she was visiting at the home of her grandson, Andrew Smith, of this place, when the end came.

The funeral services were held at the home of Andrew Smith, Tuesday morning, Rev. Menohern officiating. Interment took place at Macksburg cemetery.
