Jonathon Cory Thompson, beloved husband, father, son, friend, and teacher, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Jon was born in Maryville, Missouri, in 1971. He attended Kindergarten through 12th grade at Earlham Community School in Earlham, Iowa. He attended Northwest State University in Maryville, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education with
an emphasis in Wildlife and Ecology. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Wayne State College.

Jon married Monica Smith on June 22, 2002, in Bellevue, Nebraska. They have two sons, Matthew and Joshua.

Jon began his teaching career at Excelsior Springs Elementary in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. After moving to Omaha in 2001, he taught Physical Education in Millard Public Schools from 2001until his passing in 2022.

Jon is survived by his wife, Monica Thompson; his sons, Matthew and Joshua; his mother, Connie Osler; his step-mother Vonda Thompson; his sister, Terra Brummett and her husband, Anthony; his brother Travis McDaniel and his wife Mandy; his sister Crystal Wright and her husband Zach; his brother, Larry Dean West; and his sister, Suzi
Piveral; and 35 nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, coworkers and students.

Jon was preceded in death by his father, Gregory Read Thompson; his step-father, Richard McDaniel; his grandparents, Harold and Betty Thompson and Fletcher and Anna Mae Osler; and Bud and Mary Lou McDaniel.

A Celebration of Life for Jon will be held at the SumTur Amphitheater, 11691 S 108th Street in Papillion on Wednesday June 1st. The family will welcome guests beginning at 10 a.m.; the celebration will begin at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to a college fund for Jon’s sons. Additionally, you can donate to American Red Cross or donate blood in his honor.
