Sarah Arningdale was born in Licking county, Ohio, February 19, 1839. At the age of 11 years she removed with her parents to Fulton county, ILL. January 1, 1868, she was united in marriage with John H. Allen. In 1879 they removed to Louisa county, Iowa. They lived in Washington, Henry and Louisa counties until the time of her death.

She was the oldest of a family of nine children and was the first to pass away. The remaining eight are still living and all were present except on sister. Four brothers and one sister reside in Iowa and one brother and two sisters in Illinois.

For the last few years she has been afflicted with a cancer which finally caused her death. She was a patient sufferer and put her trust in God. She passed away at 12:30 June 15, 1899, aged 60 years, 3 months and 27 days, leaving a husband, five brothers, three sisters and many friends to mourn her loss. the funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. S. Kight from the M. E. church in Columbus city, Friday, June 16, 1899.
