We cannot express the shock that was felt here Monday afternoon by the announcement that Pearl Young, whom everybody here knew as Pearl Hawes, was dead. Her death was sudden - she was taken down on Tuesday with Jaundice and died the following Monday. It seemed specially sudden, for she seemed to be getting along nicely until about three hours before her death when blood poisoning set in. Mrs. Young was not quite 25 years old, having been born April 5, 1874, in Columbus Junction. She made this her home until she was married to J. B. Young in December, 1892; they moved to Rock Island at once and lived there until two years ago, when they moved to Muscatine, which has since been their home.

She leaves two little ones, bright children, one boy five years old and the other a girl of three years. These will live with their grandmother, Mrs. Hawes. Besides, of her family there is the father and mother, one brother, Wilfred, of Davenport and three sisters, Cynthia, who has made her home with her brother, Beulah and Mary.

Many of us went to school with Pearl Hawes, and we can see her now in the school room, a pretty, bright, lovely girl. These traits followed her into her home life; she was a good wife and a good mother. The remains were brought here from Muscatine last night, and the funeral services were held this afternoon at the Methodist church at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Kight. The interment was at Columbus City.
