Fairview, December 12- Once more death's reaping hook was thrown over this community, and has taken with it one of our old settlers. It was David Dotson Sr., who left the tabernacle of clay and was transposed over the river of death into the realms of glory on the 9th inst.

He was born in Fayette county, Pa., Oct. 2, 1818, he died Dec. 9, 1898, at his home one-half mile south of Newport, Iowa. At the time of his death he was 80 years, 2 months, and 7 days old. He was well known and highly respected perhaps by as many people as any in Louisa county. All one could do, after becoming acquainted with him, was to love and admire him.

He was united in the holy bonds of matrimony July 23, 1846, to Miss Mary Jackman who survives. From this union 10 children were born: five of them receded him to the celestial city, who were standing on the golden shore to welcome him to their immaculate society, where separation will never be known.

In the spring of 1854 he with his family emigrated t what was then the far west, Louisa county, Iowa, where he resided until death removed him from labor to reward. Father Dotson has always been an ardent abhorrent of the very appearance of evil of every description from his childhood to the day of his death. He was all through life a great advocate and supporter of religion, morality and temperance. In 1880 he experienced a change of heart and received the atonement which pardoned all his imperfections. since that time he has constantly live the life of a devoted christian and a true follower of his blessed Savior. In 1893 he first became afflicted with what was the cause of his death. It was a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered, but became more reduced from day to day until his flame of live was blown out. During the five years of suffering he was never know to murmur or complain of his affliction, but was perfectly resigned to the will of his Master.

The children that survive him are Bazel of Shelby county, Nebr., Oella, wife of LaFayette Packwood, Samuel and Hattie, who are still under the parental roof and George who resides on the same farm. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
