Mrs. Sarah A. Butler died at her home in this place last Monday morning, of congestion of the brain, after an illness of only a few days, though she had been ailing for several weeks. She was born in West Salem, Ohio, May 24, 1842, and was at the time of her death in her 57th year.

She came to Iowa in 1856 and was married to Mr. C. F. Butler, November 15, 1866. She was the mother of five children, so sons and three daughters, all of whom except one daughter survive her. She untied with the Christian church at Columbus City when she was a young girl and her whole life exemplified the teachings of the Savior she loved. It is impossible, in an article like this, to do justice to such a woman as Mrs. Butler. She was naturally kind, gentle and affectionate and her devotion to her family was marvelous. While her whole life was centered in her home she was faithful to her church and found opportunity for many kind deeds outside her home. The whole community was shocked to learn of her dangerous illness and the expressions of esteem and admiration and regard for her as a woman and as a wife and mother and friend were universal. Everyone who knew her held her in highest regard. Her death fell as a stunning blow upon her husband and children and immediate friends. The sympathy which all fell for them is too deep for words. All her family were with her at t he time of her death, her youngest son arriving from Chicago only a few hours before she died. Her death is also most deeply felt by her sister, Mrs. Dill, and family who were warmly attached to her by reason of her unvarying kindness beside the ties of kindred.

The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Christian church in Columbus City, conducted by Rev. D. H. Fouse, whose words were most cheering and comforting tot he bereaved ones. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. She was laid to rest in the Columbus City cemetery by the side of her daughter Irene who died about 11 years ago at the age of 14 years. Besides her immediate family she leaves one brother and one sister and one half brother and one half sister.
