Jefferson C. Bennington met a violent death in the Burlington railroad yards on last Saturday. After dinner with his wife and children and in good spirits went to his work with the shifting crew. ..he was thrown under the wheels and so mangled that he died shortly. His remains were taken to ?ville Monday and from there to Oakland church, escorted by the a. O.U. W. of Columbus Junction. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. H. Fouse. Burial was made at the Beauchamp cemetery. Mr. Bennington was born in 1855 in Muscatine county; married in 1881 to Miss Sarah Baker. The wife and three children mourn his untimely departure. Conesville, June 7 - J. C. Bennington, a switchman residing at 519 South Tenth street, Burlington, Iowa, fell under his engine in the lower yards about 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 4th, receiving injuries from which he died about half and hour later. Mr. Bennington was born in 1855 in Muscatine county. He was married to Miss Sarah Baker, February 11, 1881. To them were born five children, two of whom preceded him to the spirit land. He leaves a wife, three children, an aged mother, three sister and a host of friends to mourn his departure. He was a Mason and a member of A. O. U. W. Funeral services were held at Burlington June 6th. A sad procession followed his remains to the train Monday morning which bore him to Oakland where services were conducted by Rev. Fouse. His soul had gone to God while his body rests beneath the sod in Oakland cemetery.
