Wm Crocker Sr. died. The deceased was born in Devonshire county, England, October 9, 1821; was married to Miss Fannie E Tyler of Plymouth, England, in March 1842. In the year 1846, after disposing of the Crocker estate, with wife, three children, two servant girls, brother and brother-in-law, he sailed for America.

After a stormy voyage, covering a period of 1212 days at sea, all landed sage at Quebec, Canada. Shortly after reaching Canada, he and family went to the state of Michigan and settled at Crockerville, Genesee county, near the city of Flint, where lived a brother, two sisters and brother-in-law.

Here W. H. Crocker engaged in farming, following that occupation until the spring of 1854, at which time he sold out and emigrated to Oakland township, Louisa county, Iowa. He purchased a farm of Charles Abbott, built a frame house and in the summer of 1854, moved in.

In 1858 he engaged in merchandising and carried on a general merchandise business almost constantly until her removed to Port Allen in 1872, where he engaged in the sake business for many years. Here he died Saturday, April 9, 1898.

The deceased was a robust, stout, active man of a cheerful disposition and enjoyed the best of health the greater part of his life. In 1896 he became afflicted with dropsy and other complications to which the aged are more or less subject. However, after being reduced greatly in size, he recovered partiality and seemed to enjoy fair health until the fatal attack of heart failure, from which it is supposed he died.

The deceased was the father of five sons and three daughters, all of who save on reached their majority. He leaves a widowed wife, three sons and daughter to mourn his demise. He departed this life at the ripe old age of 76 years and six months. The funeral services were conducted at the old home, Rev. Fouse officiating, on April 12, 1898. John Idle, Cyril Carpenter, John Baker, Hiram Bliven, Thomas Bebb and Henry Musser were the pall bearers who laid their old neighboer away to rest in the Oakland cemetery, where a son and daughter, who preceded him, are buried.
