Ray Fare, Sr. is buried at Cedar Memorial Cemetary in Cedar Rapids, Ia. So is his son, my father, Ray Fare, Jr.
"Ray Fare Sr., 90, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 3, 1995, in Crestview Acres Nursing Home after a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after noon Tuesday at the chapel.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Paul of Central City; and two sons, James of Robins and Ray Jr. of Alburnett.
Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, John and Wayne; two daughters, Velma Hoffman and Lois Eisher; three brothers, Jim, Walter and Bill; two sisters, Cecil Hensley and Lucy Bonham; and two grandchildren.
Ray was born April 28, 1905, in West Plains, Mo., to Thomas and Louellen Wolfe Fare. He married Ora Sparks on April 24, 1969, in Kahoka, Mo. She died Nov. 4, 1985. Ray worked at Wilson's for 20 years, then at Penick and Ford for 25 years before he retired. Ray lived and died in the sunshine and will be greatly missed by his family and friends."
My father, Ray Fare, Jr. died in November 2004.
