I am looking for information on Jeremiah Lynch (aka Jerry or Jere) (born 1845, death unknown) or his wife Carrie Kirby Lynch Shane (born abt 1845, died 1895). He practiced law in Cedar Rapids from about 1877 until his death.
Jeremiah emigrated from Ireland in 1855 at the age of 10 with his brother Patrick (aged 6). Jeremiah enlisted at about 16 in Company C of the 13th Iowa and was wounded at Vicksburg. Both Patrick and Jeremiah studied law and became lawyers in Blairstown, Iowa after the Civil War. Jeremiah moved to Cedar Rapids in 1877 and continued to practice law there. He and his wife are listed on the 1880 federal census in Cedar Rapids. A county history book said that Carrie Lynch married Judge John Shane of Vinton in 1882 after her husband's death. So he may have died between 1880 and 1882. The same book said that Carrie Lynch Shane died in 1895. A "Carrie" was listed on the 1895 Iowa census as the wife of John Shane. I have not found any evidence of any children for Jeremiah and Carrie Lynch.
Any more info greatly appreciated.
