Mrs. Sidney E. Bills Passes on to Her Reward March 16, 1902.
(Obituary; Page 8 of The Anamosa Eureka, published in Amamosa, Iowa on Thursday, March 27, 1902)Irene Brownell was born in Chatauqua County, NY, on January 8, 1862.
There she grew to womanhood and on Sept. 8, 1846, was married to Sidney E. Bills.
In the spring of 1855, Mr. and Mrs. Bills came to Jones County, Iowa and lied in Madison Township for a few years, afterwards moving to Jackson Township. In the spring of 1875 they moved to Anamosa where Mrs. Bills has lived ever since…….She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Phoebe Howard, of Chatauqua, NY, and Mrs. John Bender, of Wyoming, Iowa, and by six brothers, Mrs. Benjamin C. Brownell, Mr. Lindsay E. Brownell, of Center Junction, Jones County, Iowa; Mr. Squire A. Brownell, of Wyoming, Iowa; Mr. Oliver D. Brownell
of Champaign, Ill.; Mr. J. S. Brownell, of Wyoming, Iowa; and Mr. Ira G. Brownell, of Chatauqua, NY.Mr. and Mrs. Bills had no children but our fellow townsman, Mr. Sanford H. Brownell, was a member of their household from the age of four years until he reached manhood, so Mrs. Bills was as a mother to him. For years past, Mr. B. C. Brownell has occupied the same house as his sister and with his sister, Mrs. John Bender, of Wyoming, has ministered to Mrs. Bills’ wants during her last sickness.
