Charles Cline, of Otho, is in jail on a very ugly charge. His own 18 year old daughter is the complainant and the offense is the unnatural crime of incest. She says the relation has continued for more then a year, and that she has been terrorized. The mother refuses to believe the charge. Cline is one of the shining lights of the populist party, was its candidate for sheriff two years ago, and they had to go to jail last Saturday to get his signature to the proceedings of its recent convention, he being its secretary.

The case against Charles Cline, the populist statesman of Otho, for the abominable crime of incest was heard with closed doors before Justice Chantland Monday evening. The girl told a straight story and was not disturbed by a sharp cross-examination. The defendant was bound over in the sum of $2500 to await the action of the next grand jury. Unless he can get a bond of that size Mr. Cline will have to stay out of this campaign, and all the reforms of the day will have to peg along as best as they can without him.Fort Dodge Messenger --- Fort Dodge, Iowa
