May I join this thread? Many of the Schlimmer/Schlemmer family in eastern Iowa are descended from August Schlemmer and Emma Dorothea Stahlberg, sister to my grandfather Johannes Stahlberg. The spelling of the surnames has not been consistent.

My grandfather, who came to America at age 15, lived with August and Emma in Lyons, Iowa, when he first arrived, and perhaps even after they moved to Jones County.

There is another line of Schemmers in the area but I have not established a connection between them.
