Dear Glennis: At first glance I thought your great grandmother Lusina would have been the daughter of Anthony & Catherine (Newman) McCarney. Their marriage is recorded in Richland County Ohio, 11 May 1843 Vol 004, Page 152. where Catherine's parents lived in the town of Mansfield at that time. Catherine is buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Jones County, Iowa. My notes state "Catherine is buried on Grave 1, Lot 17 with her parents. Tombstone reads "Catherine wf of A. McCarney 36yr 6 mo 29 da. Her death date was Dec 16, 1863. Do you suppose that Catherine died shortly after the birth of Lusina? I have only bits & pieces of this family, since it's not my direct line. The only child I have listed for them is Emanuel who married Catherine Minerva Miller he is buried at the Olin Cemetery, Jones Co. IA.
Catherine (Newman) McCarney was the daughter of Rev. Jacob and Catherine Washington (Ahl) Newman. Rev. Jacob born 11 Aug 1801 christened at the Salem Evang. Lutheran Church at Pleasant Hall (Franklin County) PA. His parents John & Catherine (?) Newman (Numan). Catherine Ahl was born 20 Mar 1802 in Cumberland County PA. Her parents were John Alexander Ahl M.D. & Nancy Ellen Vaughn. Rev. Jacob and Catherine Newman are buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Jones County, Iowa. He was a minister for the United Brethren Church. Serving 20 years in the Sandusky Ohio Conference before moving to Iowa in 1853 at first in Lisbon.
The Family of Rev. Jacob & Catherine were: John Newman, Nancy Eleanor Easterly, Valentine A. Newman, Catherine was child No. 4, Emanuel Newman, Carey Newman, and Mary Ann Easterly. The places to research this family is Franklin County PA, Richland & Marion County Ohio, Linn & Jones Co. IA.
I am not directly related, but my ggg grandfather was Rev. George Newman brother of Rev. Jacob who settled in Marion County IA and died there. Hope I have helped you, I do not know anything about the McCarney family. Sincerely, Jean Kyle
