In Response To: Patterson and Thompson - Bowens Prairie? (James Butcher)

James,

Bowen's Prairie was a very early settlement and one of the first that existed away from a river or major stream in Iowa.South Fork township was just above the town that was Bowen's Prairie and there were other folks that made there new home in the area that were from Virginia, but most were Yankees from New York, Conn., etc. I am working from memory here, but I believe the Hurlburt family was from Virgina as well, maybe there is a connection there?
