Final rites for Werner Bendixen, 83, were held in Wyoming Oct. 7, 1989 with the Rev. Gregory Hanneman officiating. Burial was in the Wyoming cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Fall, Michael Klatt, Daniel Rickels, Scott Stickley, Steven Bendixen and Russell Heinsius. Mr. Bendixen, Oxford Junction, died at the Anamosa Community hospital, Oct. 4.
The son of Adolph and Katherine Gottschalk Bendixen, he was born at Flensburg, Germany and educated through the 8th grade in Germany, then completed his apprenticeship, specializing in crippled children's shoes.
He came to the United States in 1927 and worked as a farmhand near Amber. He was married to Margaret Osterkamp at Wayne Zion Lutheran church near Monticello April 24, 1929. The couple farmed their married lives in the Oxford Junction and Wyoming area. Mrs. Bendixen died in 1988.
He is survived by 4 sons, Hans, Monticello; Richard, Anamosa; Werner Jr., Hopkinsville, Ky. and Chris, Olin; 6 daughters, Mrs. Wrenden (Helen) Fall, Olin; Anna Marie Entsminger, Anamosa; Mrs. Virgil (Sylvia) Ricklefs, Anamosa; Mrs. Eldon (Margaret) Stickley, Anamosa; Mrs. James (Evelyn) Heinsius, Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Steve (Chrystall) Klatt, Olin; 33 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
