Obituary.
The following notice of the death of an esteemed citizen, formerly of Iowa City, should have appeared last week, but was unintentionally omitted:
Died, at his residence in Downey, Cedar county, Iowa, David Kinkaid, in the 68th year of his age.
David Kinkaid was born in Orange county, New York, Dec. 12, 1817. He came to Iowa in 1852, and located in Iowa City. He was married to Miss Mattie Modrell, May 21, 1861. He came to Downey in 1863, where he has since resided as one of the business men of the place.
He was taken ill September 4th and died at 2 o’clock p.m. Sept. 12. His sudden death has cast a gloom over the entire community. His life has ever been characteristic of that greatest of all virtues, charity; charity to all and ill will to none. He lived in the daily practice of good to all men. In his own home he was a tender and loving husband ever thoughtful for the comfort of an invalid wife who alone survives him.
He became a member of the M. E. Church in 1877, and remained a consistent member of his chosen profession until his death.
His lonely widow has the deepest sympathy of kind friends and neighbors in her great loss. May time, which is the great healer of all sorrow, pour balm on that bleeding heart. May the Divine One strengthen the chain, He has broken in twain and bear her even in his care, to meet the loved one gone before to await her in the mansions of bliss.
