In loving memory of Tanner Steckly, a devoted man of God and a beacon of love for his family. His life, a testament of faith and affection, ended too soon after a long struggle with mental health. Tanner’s legacy of kindness and spiritual strength will forever inspire us. Tanner chose to be with his loving God on January 8th, 2024 and he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Tanner was born in Iowa City on September 5th, 1991 to his loving mother Cherie Steckly. He spent his childhood in Tiffin, IA, where he had many memories with his dogs Brutus and Lucky. He graduated high school from Clear Creek Amana in 2010. He received his Associates degree from Kirkwood Community College.

Tanner was a man who filled his life with enjoying the outdoors, watching and following the Tennessee Titans, fishing out at Lake McBride, loving his dogs and spending time with his family especially his two year old son, Caleb. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Tanner married Rebecca Tanner on March 15, 2020 where ironically he did not want to take her last name. They lived in Coralville, IA, where they began to expand their family starting with the four-legged pack of Tex, Tucker, Kanga and Nala; then the completion of their pack with the birth of their son, Caleb in 2021.

Tanner loved to work with his hands as much as possible with woodworking. He began the journey of becoming a carpenter by joining the Twin City Carpenters Union where he was employed by Meneefee. Tanner loved his job and loved the challenges that his new job gave him.

Tanner is survived by his wife Rebecca Steckly, son Caleb Steckly, mother Cherie Steckly, siblings Ryan (Melissa) Steckly, Kevin (Jessica) Steckly, and Kristin (Dave) Scheetz. Nieces: Addilyn, Ayla and Taylor. Nephews: Gage, Camden, Asher, Easton, Bryer and Beckett. Tanner is survived by many extended family members and his father Richard Julius.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, January 18 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City from 12-2PM. A memorial service will follow at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the family for a memorial bench in Tanner’s honor with any additional funds to support his son’s future.
