David Harriman

David Harriman, 72, was welcomed into heaven on November 23, 2023, while receiving care at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City. We rejoice that he is pain-free after a battle with cancer.

David was born on October 17, 1951 in Iowa City to the late Evon and Evelyn (Clements) Harriman.

He joined the Army at the age of 20, before leaving for boot camp, he conceived a child, Steven Dirks with Peggy Furgason. He served our country in the Vietnam war where he had worked as a heavy equipment operator. When he completed his time in the service he continued to work with truck driving and also spent some time in the oil field.

In April of 1974, David married Diana Hundley. To this union, two children were born: Danena and Daniel "DJ." The couple later divorced in 1982. In June of 2015, David met his long-time girlfriend, Margo Kempf, and the two remained happily together until his passing.

In his spare time, David enjoyed traveling, taking photos, and spending time with his family and cat, JoJo. He also enjoyed spending time with his childhood friends, Tim Spivey, Josie and Jayna Bircher. He was proud to be a self-proclaimed Jeep enthusiast.

David is survived by his children: Steve and wife, Amy Dirks, Danena Holman, Daniel (DJ) and wife, Danielle Hux; grandchildren: Joshua and wife, Megan Dirks, Emily and husband, Ryan Harter and Oliva Dirks, Brian and Paul Holman, Chloe and Gabi Hux and a great grandson, Garner Dirks. He is also survived by his brother, Robert and wife, Nancy Guyer and nephews: Brad and Andy Guyer. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Iyla Dirks.

He will be remembered for all the love he shared with his friends and family. He will be missed dearly.

David requested to be cremated. A graveside service to commemorate his life will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
