Gerald Rayner, 87, of Lone Tree, passed away on November 15, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center in Iowa City.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Private interment will be at Lone Tree Cemetery.

Gerald was born on April 21, 1936 in Iowa City to the late George and Frances (May) Rayner. After graduating from Lone Tree High School, Gerald was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany. On December 21, 1958 he married Janice Eden. Together they lived in Germany during his service.

Gerald worked at Moore Business Forms as a pressman for over 30 years. Following retirement, he continued to work the family farm. Gerald also spent many years raising, showing and breaking horses. It was a huge part of his life.

Gerald and Janice enjoyed attending Iowa Hawkeye football games. The couple also enjoyed traveling and in their younger years, dancing. Above all, family was the most important thing to Gerald. Attending kids and grandkids’ events was always a highlight of his day.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janice; children: Julie (Bob) Buline, Randall (Elaine) Rayner and Russ (Darcy) Rayner; grandchildren: Morgan (Blake) Terrell, Jay (McKenzie) Buline, Dillon (Kacey) Buline, Gina (Tara) Zelle, Quinn (Kiersten Jensen) Rayner and Dalton and Austin Rayner; great grandchildren: Corban and Jocelyn Terrell, Kipton, Maely, Demi, Eli, Laina and Edie Buline and Elouise and Atticus Zelle. He is also survived by his siblings: Maynard (Betty) Rayner, twin brother Donald (Jean) Rayner and Ronald Rayner as well as a brother-in-law, Gary Eden (Beth).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lone Tree Fire and Rescue or to First United Methodist Church.
