Lisa Ann Ryan, a long time resident of Iowa City, passed away peacefully at 62 years old.

Born in Grinnell, Iowa on November 30, 1960, Lisa was the second oldest of four children of Christine Cochran and D. Nicholas Ryan. Lisa grew up in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1979. Throughout those years she enjoyed family, swimming, tennis, ice-skating and her close circle of friends. Family gatherings with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins were particular highlights that she would recall fondly over the years.

From a young age Lisa was very creative. She usually had an art or craft project going - along with tackling complex puzzles. She was generous and enjoyed making, baking or finding just the right gift for friends, family and acquaintances.

Lisa was a proud alumni of the University of Iowa, where she earned both her baccalaureate and master’s degree.

Then settling in Iowa City, Lisa married Jim Farr and their daughter Elenore “Ellie” was born. Lisa loved having a daughter and was very proud watching her grow into the poised, smart and loving adult she has become.

Lisa was clever and funny, with a very sharp wit. She enjoyed making those around her laugh and could find humor in most situations. She was an avid reader, a trait she shared with her mother, with whom she brought and traded books with each week. The last few years Lisa would cook dinners each Saturday night for she and her mother, which were cherished times for both.

Lisa is survived by her daughter Elenore Farr, her former husband Jim Farr, sister Meaghan Houska (Mike), brother David Ryan (Melissa), step-sister Valerie Kemp and step-brother Steven Kemp (Janet); brother-in-law David Brown, nieces Johanna Houska, Bailey Ryan and Caitlin Ryan and nephew Samuel Houska. She is also survived by her uncles, aunts and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother Christine Cochran Kemp, her step-father Robert Kemp, her father D. Nicholas Ryan, her sister Julia Ryan Brown, Valerie’s partner Kevin Snyder and her grandparents.

Memorials may be made in Lisa’s name to the Iowa City Animal Center, 3910 Napoleon Lane, Iowa City, IA 52240.
