Olin L. Lloyd of Iowa City passed away on May 10, 2021. He was 89 years old.

Born on September 21, 1931 in San Saba, Texas, Olin was the son of Olin and Theda (Lee Miller) Lloyd. His family moved to the Iowa City area when he was nine years old. Olin completed his education at Iowa City High where he met the love of his life, Rene. Rene and Olin were married for 67 years. Olin joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. When he returned, he went to work and established himself as an entrepreneur and business owner. In addition to owning and operating several businesses, Olin also built, bought and sold commercial properties.

When not caring for his family, Olin busied himself with church and various organizations. He belonged to the Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree, Iowa, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapshooting. Olin and Rene cherished the many winters they spent in Arizona and Texas with their snowbird friends. Olin enjoyed his many roles, but his favorite was his role as a father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was devoted to his growing family, and his generosity and loving heart will long be remembered. This special man is mourned by many, and he will be deeply missed.

Surviving Olin are his beloved wife, Floraine; his children, John (Michelle) Lloyd, Cynthia (Gary) Hotka, Gerry (Lois) Lloyd and Janice (the late Frank) Willhite; his grandchildren, Jacob (Lisa) Lloyd, Jessica (Anthony) Black, Morgan (Andrew) Hockenson, Melanie (Reid) Hockenson, Joseph (Molly) Hotka, Geoffrey (Rachel) Lloyd, Daniel (Larah) Lloyd, Malia (Devin) Gallentine, Lanea (Dean) Soteropulos and Kyle Lloyd; great grandchildren, Leah Black, Madelyn Hockenson, Blaise Hockenson, Alina Hockenson, Jadeyn Hotka, Josey Hotka and Eve Gallentine.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Theda L. Miller, grandson, Matthew Lloyd and favorite aunt, Maxine Lockhart.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to St. Croix Hospice and Atrium Village for their kindness and care of Olin in his final days.

The family will receive guests at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service on Thursday, May 13th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, May 14th at 10 a.m., also at the funeral home. Olin will then be laid to rest at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
