Cleo E. Yoder, age 88 formerly of Iowa City died Monday, August 23, 2004 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny where he has lived for the past nine years.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Family graveside services will be held on Saturday at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent for Cleo’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com

Cleo Edward Yoder was born May 20, 1916 in Washington Township of Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Charles E. and Lydia Ann Miller Yoder. He attended a one room school house near Frytown and later Center High School in rural Johnson County, where he participated in sports and singing in a barber shop quartet. On December 23, 1938, Cleo married Margaret Loraine Fry in Iowa City. Cleo farmed most of his life as well as being known as a “turkey doctor” for Maplecrest. He showed Black Angus cattle all over the country including Ft. Worth, Texas and Denver, Colorado. Was known to even do some judging of livestock, those around him knowing his knowledge of cattle. He was the first 4-H member to win the international Livestock Show in Chicago two times and the youngest man to do so! Cleo was a Farm Bureau Member, Member of the Angus Association and active in ASCS. Cleo was an avid sports nut also, enjoyed watching and talking sports to anyone that would listen, enjoyed reading, teasing, and giving people nicknames.

His family includes daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Larry Sleister of Guthrie Center, Iowa, Linda “Pete” Lawson and Jim Harris of Tampa, Florida, and Cathlin and Roger Farmer of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Curt E. Yoder of Washington, D.C., nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandson.

Cleo was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and two brothers.
