Charlene Elizabeth Lehman, 60 of 1231 Sheridan Ave., Iowa City died, Monday August 2, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from complications following a bone marrow transplant.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service-605 Kirkwood Ave. Iowa City. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Episcopal Church- Music Development Fund or the Iowa Library Association Foundation, Endowed Speaker’s Fund.

Charlene was born February 9, 1944 in Hastings, Nebraska the daughter of Carl and Lucile (Barbur) Sole. Charlene was the third daughter and the youngest of six children. She graduated from Hastings High School in May, 1962, and received her BA from Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska, May, 1966. In January of 1968 she earned her MA in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

On April 6, 1973 in Iowa City, Iowa she married Robert S. Lehman. Charlene was employed as a serials cataloger and later as a reference librarian for the University of Iowa Libraries from January 1970-until her retirement in April of 2002. Early in her career she worked as a reader’s advisor at Omaha Public Library.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Iowa City, Iowa, a charter member of St. Hilda of Whitby Chapter, Trinity Episcopal-Daughters of the King.

Survivors include her husband Robert of Iowa City, Iowa; two sisters, Caroline Hueske of Grand Island, Nebraska; Sandra Wehnes and her husband Darrel of Inland, Nebraska and one brother, Burton E. Sole and his wife, Shari of Hastings, Nebraska. She is also survived by the Lehman sisters and brothers-in-law: George A. Lehman and Cecelia Schultz of Iowa City; Leora and Kenneth Hein of Iowa City; Elnora and Harold Wilkerson of West Liberty; Ellen and Don Pelechek of Coralville. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
