David Larry Ackerman, age 60 of 850 Bridget Lane, Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, June 14, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
Family services will be held today at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Karl Divine-Koch officiating. Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery near Manson, Iowa.
David was born April 14, 1944 in Quincy, IL the son of the Reverend John B. Ackerman and Ella (Hoffman) Ackerman. He attended Wartburg College in Waverly and graduated with a degree in business from the University of Iowa. He managed many grocery stores in Pittsburg, PA, Michigan and Indianapolis, IN for a number of years. He also managed the Star Grocery store in Iowa City, and worked as a counselor for ASAC in Cedar Rapids for a number of years.
His family includes his mother, Ella Ackerman of Iowa City, and a daughter and her husband, Carla and Mark Smalley living in Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren, Jacqueline and Emily.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother and sister.
