William “Bill” P. Kottemann, D.D.S., 82, of 3035 Sweet Briar Avenue died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Greenwood Manor Care Center.

A Memorial Celebration for family and friends to celebrate Bill’s life will be held Sunday, September 26, 2004 from 2 to 4 PM at the Izaak Walton League, Iowa City. Dr. Kottemann donated his body to the UI College of Anatomy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the University of Iowa Foundation for the Department of Orthodontics at the College of Dentistry. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

Dr. Kottemann was born September 30, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of William and Freda Emanuel Kottemann. He had served in the US Marine Corps during World War II and later was in the Reserve Officer Navy Dental Corps. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and received his D.D.S. in 1951 and M.S. in 1952. Bill married Margaret Eisenman in 1947, she died in 1962. He married Linda Nichols in 1962. On June 6, 1970 he married Nan Winner in Iowa City.

Dr. Kottemann was an orthodontist in Iowa City for many years, retiring in 1990.
His professional memberships included the American Association of Orthodontists. He was Past President of the Johnson County Dental Association and Past Trustee of the Iowa Dental Association.

Bill was a member of the Iowa City Noon Rotary Club, the Elks Club and the Iowa City Masonic Temple, the Kaaba Shrine and the Jesters. He loved the outdoors, Hawkeye sports, Crow Wing Crest Resort and his family.

Bill is survived by his wife Nan and children: Bill Kottemann (Jean) of Orono, Minnesota and their sons Kraig and Scott; Bob Kottemann (Cindy Carper) of Nashville, Tennessee; Brent Kottemann (Pamela) and their children Brooke ( Ben Hill) , Blake, Lisa, and Luke; Blaine Dickerson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mike Winner ( Ellen) of Fletcher, North Carolina and their children Rachel and Frank; Barb Larew (Ernie) of Cedar Rapids and their children Andy (Molly), Katie; Jan Beal (Tom) of Cedar Rapids and their children Justin and Elyse;
And two Great Grandchildren; Reese Hill and Jason Larew; His brother: George Kotteman (Norma) of Peoria, Illinois and his sister Dorothy Westly (Stephen) of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
