Everill “Ev” F. Daters,75, of 320 Park Road died Friday, July 2, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics of leukemia.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 10AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with the Rev. Walter Helms officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A reception will be held in the church hall following the committal service. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30PM, Monday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation for the Everill Daters Leukemia/ Bone Morrow Transplant Research Fund at UIHC.

Ev was born June 4, 1929 in Haverhill, Iowa, the son of Charles and Rosena Neuroth Daters. Ev was a graduate of State Center High School. He received both his BA and MA in education from the University of Northern Iowa. Ev married Jean Riemenschneider on August 22, 1949 in State Center, Iowa.

Ev and his family moved to Iowa City in 1958, where he taught at University High School and Northwest Junior High. After 38 years of teaching industrial arts and driver education, he retired in 1989.

He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Ev enjoyed the Hawkeyes, the Cubs, golfing, auctions and spending time on the computer and with his grandchildren.

Ev is survived by his wife Jean and their four children: Tim Daters of Little Rock, Arkansas and his children Andrew (Callie), Adam (Valerie) and Elizabeth; Toni Cilek (Nick) of Iowa City and their children Emily, Kate, Jacob and Laura; Kim Daters (Julie) of Sonora, California and their children K.C., Michael and Benjamin; Kay (Brett) Noser of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and their children Troy, Kyle, Claire and Grant; one great grandson, James Daters; three brothers, Richard Daters (JoAnn) of Melbourne, Iowa, LaVerne Daters of State Center, Iowa, Gary Daters of Cedar Falls; three sisters, Esther Miller of Marshalltown, Shirley Dunn (Richard) of Clear Lake, Iowa and Beverly Allison of Marshalltown.

Ev was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Luke Daters Cilek and one daughter-in-law, Rebecca Kroetz Daters.
