James E. Shockley Jr. age 23 of rural Mount Vernon died at his home on Saturday, June 26, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the James E. Shockley Jr. Memorial Fund. James Edward Shockley Jr. was born on September 11, 1980 in Elkton, Maryland the son of James and Michelle Blankenship Shockley. His family includes his daughter Raenique Diaz-Shockley and her mother Romara Diaz of Iowa City, his mother Michelle Blankenship and step-father David Morgan of Mount Vernon, two sisters Bianca and Jennifer Smallwood of Iowa City, step-brother Diamonte Morgan, grandmother Shirley Yates all of Mount Vernon, aunt, Melinda Yates of Iowa City, close friends and mentors Chuck and Marie Abernathy and Mike Smallwood all of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his father. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for James’s family and his services.
