Bonnie June Porcella, 80, of 350 Dublin Court died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a brief illness.

Memorial Services to celebrate Bonnie June’s life will be held Friday, July 2, 2004 at 10:30AM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service with Joe Blomberg officiating. The family will greet friends after 9AM. A reception will follow the memorial service at Melrose Meadows, 350 Dublin Drive, Iowa City. Committal services will be Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 11:00AM at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Bonnie June was born June 2, 1924 in St. Mary’s, Idaho, the daughter of Jehu and Ethel Long Price. She attended high school in Longview, Washington and graduated from Plainfield High School in Plainfield, New Jersey. She married Brewster Porcella on June 9, 1946 in Longview, Washington.

Bonnie June studied nursing at the Seattle Pacific College under the auspices of the Cadet Nurse Corps, a World War II training program. She and her husband lived in New Jersey, Illinois and Iowa. She served as co-laborer with her minister husband in many churches and for twenty years at the Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois. From 1964 to 73 she was a research assistant in ophthalmology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics under Dr. Frederick Blodi.

In retirement, she and her husband Brewster moved to Loveland, Colorado to enjoy the large skies and beautiful mountains she so loved. From 1994 to 1998 they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their RV home.

Bonnie June played piano and autoharp and was an avid Bluegrass music fan. She was enormously gifted in hospitality, in mentoring seminary wives, and in sewing and quilting. She became a master needle woman and created heirloom quilts for her female descendants.

Survivors include her husband Brewster and their seven children, twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Brewster Joel Porcella and wife Pam of Simi Valley, California and his children Lisa and Mark, and their daughter Amanda; Aleta Porcella and her husband Alan Murphy of Iowa City; Bonita Cartoun and husband Andrew of Newtown, Connecticut, her daughter Meg and their daughter Melissa; Meta Nelson and her husband Jon of Denver, Colorado and their children Carlotta, Nat, and Alena; Guy Porcella and his wife Michelle of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and their children Aaron, Adam and Chloe; Margherita Porcella and her husband Joe Blomberg of Boulder, Colorado and their daughter Tirzah; and Angelita Porcella and Bill Schmidt of Silver Springs, Maryland; two great grandchildren Allison and Karl; and two sisters, Betty Leikhus of Sammamish, Washington and Dee Etta Sethre of Medford, Oregon.
