LaVerna P. Antone, 88, of Iowa City, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after complications of a stroke.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A parish wake service & rosary will begin at 7:30 PM Monday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to the LaVerna Antone Memorial Fund which shall be directed to organizations that LaVerna herself supported.

LaVerna was born July 22, 1915 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Paul J. & Mary K. (Troy) Ipsen. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Iowa City and married Albert Antone at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City on November 6, 1935. She was a homemaker and also worked as a housekeeper in the dormitories at the University of Iowa.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children, Joe Antone & his wife Jane Anne of East Point, Michigan, Clyde Antone & his wife Judy of West Branch, Iowa, Carolyn Antone-Page & her husband Joseph Page of Iowa City and Rita Kieras & her husband Dave of Ann Arbor, Michigan; a brother Edward Ipsen of Iowa City and Mary Anna Reynolds of Amana, fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Paul, Ray & John and two sisters, Gertrude & Eugenia.
