Sandra “Sandy” Jean Miller, 66, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville following a long illness.

Sandra chose to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 8th, at 12:00 PM (noon) at North Liberty First United Methodist Church with Reverend Alecia Williams officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until noon at the church. Burial of cremains will be private. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Animal Shelter or your local animal shelter.

Sandra was born April 10, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Charles K. Pfaff and Pearl L. (Endorf) Pfaff. Her father was a Veterinarian that ran a large animal practice in eastern Iowa and in Illinois. Her father later worked for Ft. Dodge Laboratories as a large animal consultant.

Her family lived in eastern and central Iowa and central Illinois as she grew up. She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She then graduated from Kansas University receiving her Bachelors in Nursing, RN. Sandy lived in Kansas City and later worked for hospitals in Des Moines, Iowa. Sandy later attended Rutgers for one year and then transferred to Columbia University in New York City where she received her M.S. in Psychiatric Nursing. She then worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Sandy was a faculty member of The University of Iowa School of Nursing, as an instructor from 1969 to 1974 and as an Associate Professor from 1974 – 1981. She recently worked as a test examiner for NCS Pearson in Iowa City. She was a member of North Liberty First United Methodist Church.

Sandy is survived by her long time friend and companion, Mr. Harry Baum of Iowa City; her niece, Elizabeth A. Bergman of Leavenworth, Kansas, her nephew, Jeffrey C. Jackson of Little Rock, Arkansas and a brother in law, Larry Jackson of Leavenworth, Kansas.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carol Ann Jackson.
