William D. Connell, 79 of Iowa City, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at University of Iowa Healthcare of pneumonia following a long illness.

Funeral Mass will be Celebrated Monday June 7, 2004 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. A parish rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM Sunday. Reverend Michael Phillips will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be directed to the Cardio Vascular Intensive Care Unit at UI Healthcare or for a portable sound system for the Vogel Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Bill was born February 16, 1925 in Iowa City, the son of Thomas O. and Agnes (Stockman) Connell. Bill married Dorothe Gilpin on January 27, 1948 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Bill founded and operated Bill’s Plumbing & Heating in Iowa City for 52 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Cosgrove Assembly, 4th Degree. Bill served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothe; one son, Mike (Chris) Connell; his two daughters, Chris (Jeff) Dwyer and Cherie (Jim) Alberhasky, all of Iowa City
his brother Robert “Doc” (Evelyn) Connell of Reno, Nevada; his sister-in-law Marcia Connell of Clear Lake; seven grandchildren, Kelly & Cory Connell, Carrie & Kaci Dwyer, and Ryan, Tyler & Connor Alberhasky; and his 52 pound beagle Teddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, Albert and Thomas; three brothers, Tom, Joe and Jim; and one sister, Marie Johnson.
