Gary A. Louis, age 51 of Iowa City died at his home Sunday, May 2, 2004, following a bravely fought battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Parkview Evangelical Free Church in Iowa City with the Reverends Steve Rachke and Larry Brown officiating. A memorial fund has been established in Gary’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for Gary’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Gary Alan Louis was born October 28, 1952, in Iowa City the son of Bud and Betty (Morgan) Louis. Growing up in Iowa City, he attended University High School until his senior year where he transferred to Iowa City City High School where he graduated in 1971. Following high school, he was accepted into the College of Engineering Program at the Univesity of Iowa. While at Iowa, he played on the Iowa Hawkeye’s Football Team, was involved as a student senator, liberal arts congressman, pledged at Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity, and was a member of College Young Republicans.

He went on to obtain his pilot’s license and became an Army and Air Force Cadet Officer within the ROTC. Gary established Louis Enterprises in 1975, a business of printing, advertising and aerial photography. In 1977, Gary married Marie Van Hamme of Victor, to this union their daughter, Mary was born in 1982.

His family includes his parents, Bud and Betty Louis of Iowa City; daughter, Mary Louis of Iowa City; sister and her husband, Shari and Jesus Vazquez and their children, Ben, Joey and Nena of Castle Rock, Colorado; and his former wife, Marie Louis of Coralville.

Gary Louis will always be remembered as an exceptionally optimistic, hugely funny, and undeniably gregarious son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
