Annette Louise Scheffel, 67, of 2922 Sweet Briar Ave. died at home on Saturday, May 1, 2004.

Services will be held at 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 5 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 4 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Lensings Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at a later date in Grand Island, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to the Center for Nursing Classification and Clinical Effectiveness c/o The University of Iowa Foundation, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Iowa City Hospice.

The oldest daughter of Lewis George and Rose Clara (Bergholz) Scheffel, Annette was born January 25, 1937, in Grand Island, Nebraska. After graduating from Grand Island High School, she earned an R.N. diploma from the Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing. Annette went on to earn a B.S.N. and M. S. N. Ed. from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana and completed post graduate work at The University of Iowa. She moved to Iowa City in 1965 to teach at The University of Iowa College of Nursing, retiring as a Tenured Assistant Professor in 2002.

She was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church including the choir, Past Board of Directors, Human Care Committee and the Angel Tree program. She was a member and past president of the Iowa Nurses Association and also a member of Sigma Theta Tau and Pi Lambda Theta.

Survivors include her brother; Kenneth Scheffel and his wife Gwendolyn of Springfield, Ohio, sister; Ruth Hemming and her husband Jim of Spring, Texas, nieces; Jennifer Bird and her husband Bryant of Spring, Texas, Sarah Pairett and her husband David of Montgomery, Texas, Jocelyn Ballantine and her husband Tom of Alexandria, Virginia, nephew; Thaddeus Scheffel of Springfield, Ohio, great-niece; Alexandra Hernandez of Spring, Texas, stepbrothers; Jerry Raedeke and his wife Laura of Niswa, Minnesota, Kenneth Raedeke of Seattle, Washington, Art Raedeke and his wife Cindy of San Francisco, California, stepsisters; Catherine Romanzi and her husband Ray of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Margaret Holste and her husband David of Wayzata, Minnesota and many cousins and friends.

Annette is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Eloise (Meyer) Scheffel and stepbrother, Paul Raedeke.
