Keith Heller, 48, of 1022 Estron Street in Iowa City, died Monday, April 26, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics after a long battle with congestive heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at Agudas Achim Congregation in Iowa City with Rabbi Jeff Portman officiating. Burial will be in Agudas Achim Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa Donor Network, Agudas Achim Congregation or Adventure Cycling.

Keith was born August 5, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Benjamin & Vera (Broder) Heller. He graduated from Southfield-Lathrup High School in Southfield, Michigan. He then received his bachelor’s degree, dental degree and his doctorate in public health from the University of Michigan. Keith married Elizabeth Jones October 9, 1994 in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Keith served in a public health clinic in Monroe, Michigan and in private practice in Jackson, Michigan and in Beaver, Pennsylvania; in the pediatric dentistry department at Mott Children’s Hospital in Flint, Michigan; as a research investigator at the University of Michigan and currently as an assistant professor with The University of Iowa College of Dentistry.

He was a member of Agudas Achim Congregation, the American Board of Public Health Dentistry and was board certified in public health dentistry. Keith enjoyed jazz, good food and had a passion for cycling and his friends. During the Bikecentennial in the late 1970’s, Keith rode from Virginia to Oregon.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Jones and his son Andrew, both of Iowa City; a brother James & his wife Janet Crowther of Williamsburg, Virginia; his mother and step-father, Vera Schumer & Frank Schumer of Pompano Beach, Florida; niece, Rachel Heller-Varner, nephews, Daniel Heller, Mark Heller, Cary Heller, Benjamin Heller & Seth Heller; great niece, Isabelle; uncle and aunt, Joseph & Shirley Broder of Birmingham, Michigan; father and mother in law, James & Nancy Jones and sister and brother in law, Helen & Steve Stanphill, all of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Keith was preceded in death by his father, his brother Robert and a sister in law Carol.
