Charles E. “Chick” McCreedy, age 77 of 210 South First Avenue, Iowa City died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City of cancer.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City with the Reverend Kyle Otterbein officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Chick’s memory to the Little Hawks Club, c/o Iowa City City High School. Online condolences may be sent for Chick’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Charles Edward McCreedy was born November 12, 1926 in Iowa City the son of Myral D. and Mabel G. (Godlove) McCreedy. Following graduation from Iowa City City High School in 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army. On August 29, 1948, he married Betty Washburn in Nashua, Iowa. For many years, Chick was a partner with McCreedy Construction in Iowa City. He continued in the construction profession up until just a couple years ago when he retired.

His family includes his wife, Betty; two sons, Mike McCreedy and his wife, Julie of Iowa City, and Russ McCreedy of Iowa City; two grandsons, Eric and Tyler McCreedy; brothers Richard McCreedy and his wife, Marilou of Oxford, and William McCreedy of Iowa City.

Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Chick’s family and his services.
