Betty Jean Kline, 69, of Newton, Iowa and formerly of Coralville & Iowa City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Iowa City with Reverend Rudolph Berndt officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Betty was born December 4, 1934 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd & Blanche (Murphy) Martin. She grew up in Ainsworth and attended Washington High School. She graduated from Ainsworth High School. Moving to Coralville in 1953, she married Donald Kline on July 24, 1954 in Iowa City. Betty, with her husband, owned and managed the Park Motel in Coralville from 1976 – 2003. Betty loved nature and watching and feeding the birds and small animals that would gather around her home.

Survivors include a son Bill Kline & his wife Mary of North Liberty, a sister Carolyn McKinstry & her husband Steve of Newton, two grandchildren Jennifer & Matthew, a nephew Michael Shaffer & his wife Hanh and her cat Angel.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don and an infant sister Ethel Mae.
