Marilyn V. Herdlicka, age 77 of 2515 Bartelt Road, Iowa City died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 9, 2004, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Phil Slaubaugh officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Marilyn's memory. Marilyn V. Kintz was born November 9, 1926, in Sigourney, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Lucille (Metcalf) Kintz. She graduated from West Branch High School. Marilyn was married to LaVerne "Pete" Herdlicka. For a number of years she worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a phone operator, and later for the Veterans Administration Hospital doing the same, but she became an auditor in the hospital before retiring. For many years, she had also managed Pheasant Ridge Apartments (formerly Mark IVApartments).

She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a past president of the VFW Auxiliary in Iowa City. She enjoyed being busy, with work and family, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the icing on the cake in her book, she loved her kids!

Her family includes two sons and their wives, Stephen and Bonnie Hogan of Hesston, KS, and Russell and Lisa Hogan of Iowa City; sister, Charlene Ickes of Iowa City; thirteen grandchildren, Mike, Tami, Kathy, Sean, Gabriel, Lyndsey, Merideth, Tiffany, Jeremiah, Sara, Tanya, Tylor, and Samuel; twenty-great-grandchildren, Desiree, Stephanie, Christopher, Cody, Shane, Austin, Shayla, Colin, Cayla, Kyra, Joseph, Jade, Emma, Trevor, Hannah, Damond, Quincy, Jaxson, Greyson, and Eliana.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Pete; son, Robert Joe Hogan, and brother-in-law, Russell Ickes.

Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Marilyn's family and his services.
