Timothy Burke, 49, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at U of I Heathcare from a cancerous brain tumor, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Services will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City with Pastor Tim Zimmermann officiating. Friends may call Saturday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Tim chose to be cremated following the funeral service. Private burial will be held. The family requests that memorials be made to the Timothy Burke Memorial Fund.

Tim was born January 21,1955 in Scotland, South Dakota, the son of William and Georgia (Patten) Burke. He graduated from Scotland High School in l973. Tim received his pharmacy degree from South Dakota State University and his doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Tim married Diane Steffens June 18,1983 in Wiota, Iowa. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1984, where Tim was employed at University Hospitals as a cardiology clinical pharmacy specialist and an adjunct associate professor of pharmacy. One of his greatest joys was instructing and mentoring students.

Tim was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran church for 20 years where he served on or headed numerous groups. He was well known for his unique hobby of raising and breeding exotic pigeons. He traveled to national and international shows, winning many coveted awards and making friends around the world.

He received prestigious recognition for his contributions to clinical practice excellence and was the author of numerous articles in pharmacy publications.

Tim was an avid flower gardener. He was a wonderful husband and father whose sense of humor and faith will be remembered by all who knew him.

Tim is survived by his wife Diane, his children, Dan and Rachel, all of Iowa City; brothers, Richard Isaacs & wife Judy of Scotland, South Dakota; Marlin Burke & his wife Tatyana of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Georgia McCarl and her husband Terry of Omaha; brother and sister in law, Mark & Tina Steffens of Solon, Iowa and Kevin Steffens of Wiota, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and Diane’s parents, Janet and Don Steffens.
