Francis A. “Effie” Schneider, 90, of rural Cosgrove, died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Sunday, February 22, 2004 at 1:00pm at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove with Father Edmund Dunn officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00p.m. Saturday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service where a Parish Vigil Service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. and friends may also call Sunday after 12:00 at the church. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery. A reception will follow the committal service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Catholic Church or Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Effie was born August 16, 1913 in Cosgrove, Iowa the son of John and Mary Burns Schneider. He married Marcella Hammes on October 4, 1938 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek, Iowa.

Effie was a 1933 graduate of Cosgrove High School.. He and his wife Marcella, were lifelong Cosgrove area farmers and members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

Effie is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Marble of West Los Angeles, California, Dorothy Goody and her husband Jim of Iowa City, Anne Morgan and her husband, Eric of Harbor Pines, California; four sons Robert Schneider of Oxford, Iowa, Dennis Schneider of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Frank Schneider and his wife, Nancy of San Carlos, California, John Schneider of Tiffin, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; Daniel Marble(Nicki), Tim Marble(Heather), Joseph Marble, Karen Varney ( Mark), Cindy Goody, Allen Goody, Kelly Silva (Leonard), Hallie Schneider, Justin Schneider, Josette Morgan, and Veronica Morgan, and four great grandchildren; Adriana, Erin, Carson, and Alan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his six sisters, Addie Coffey, Anna Schneider, Helen Groene, Catherine Brecht, Regina Tompkins, and Rita Eckrich and his six brothers, Joe, Bill, Jim, Lee, Jack and Paul.
