Bernice R. Grimm, 79 of Iowa City died Saturday, February 21, 2004 at home after a lengthy illness with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00pm at Lensing Funeral Service with Rev. Judy Gingerich officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Lensing’s. Burial will be in Champion Hill Cemetery, Iowa County. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.

Bernice was born July 20, 1924 the daughter of Frank and Clara (Svoboda) Malatek in Newport, Iowa. She was a proud graduate of University High School. On May 30, 1944 she married Robert Grimm in Iowa City. She earned her beauticians license from the Paris Academy and worked out of her home for several years. Bernice worked many years at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, retiring in 1989 as a seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and jigsaw puzzles.

Bernice is survived by her children Dick Grimm and his wife Alice of Iowa City, Iowa, Barbara Yoder of Iowa City, Iowa, eight grandchildren; David Yoder and his wife Kerry, Ben Yoder and his wife Misey, Sarah Yoder Parker and her husband James Parker, Joshua Yoder, Amy Yoder, Matt Grimm, Jason Grimm and Joe Grimm; great grandchildren; Abigail and Byron Yoder and Sierra Yoder; two sisters, Gladys Mayrose of Des Moines, Iowa, Alice Goodwin of Kalona, Iowa and one brother Roy Malatek of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by one sister-in-law, Ellena Burger of Salem, Oregon and one brother-in-law, Allen Wolfe of Brownsville,Texas and one former son-in-law, Dean Yoder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Marvin Matalek and an infant brother and also by her brother and sister-in-laws; Maxine Wolfe, Charles and Viola Grimm, Arden Goodwin, Cyril Mayrose and William Burger.
