Clarence C. Couch, 86 of Newton, died of heart failure Tuesday, April 10, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services were held today at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Burial was at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials will be accepted to the Skiff Nurse's Day Fund.
The son of Thomas LeRoy and Mary Ellen Lovings Couch, he was born Feb 19, 1915, in rural Corydon and attended Mystic Schools in Mystic. He married Helen I. Sullivan on August 9, 1937, in Newton.
Mr. Couch farmed in his early years and worked as a machinist and serviceman. He was a longtime resident of Jasper County, living in Newton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard D. and May of Des Moines, IA; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry Bell of Newton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a half-brother Charles Bates; two half-sisters, Fern Davis and Rowena Van Gaalen of Mesa, Arizona; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a half-sister.
