Grandma Erskin Is Laid To Rest
Mrs. Matilda Asher was born in Wayne county, Indiana, April 12, 1840 and she came to Iowa at the age of eleven. She was united in marriage to John Means at the age of 16 years. To this union were born nine children; two girls and seven boys, of which three survive: Frank Means of Goddard, Kan., Curtis Means of Star, Idaho; Clifton Means of Downy, California. A few years after her marriage they moved to Missouri where they were living at the time of her husband’s death. She later brought her family back to Iowa. In 1877 she was united in marriage to Caperton Erskine and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Ridgway of Runnells, Ia.
Besides these children she leaves to mourn her death, twenty-one grandchildren, two stepsons, and a host of friends and neighbors.
At the age of thirteen she united with the Methodist church, but in later years attended the Congregational church at Runnells.
She was taken (ill) about ten months ago and was a patient suffered until her death. She departed this life June 8th, 1931, at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 27 days.
The funeral services was held in the Runnells Congregational church, Rev. L. M. Wilkinson in charge.
