Colfax, IA. (Special to The Daily News) – Mrs. Jessie Bell Chapman, wife of the late Ed Chapman, suffered a stroke Saturday evening, Feb. 22, and died Sunday evening at the age of 60 years, nine months and eight days.
Mr. and Mrs. Chapman were well known throughout this community, as Mr. Chapman was a masseur and they operated their own bath house for over 20 years.
Jessie Bell was born in Aurelia, Canada, May 15, 1880, of Scotch ancestry. She was the last survivor of 13 children.
Upon coming to Iowa she spent some time at Nora Springs before coming to Colfax in 1904. Here she was employed at the Fry hotel.
Married in 1907
In 1907 she was united in marriage to Edward Chapman. To this union were born six children, one dying in infancy.
Mr. Chapman died quite suddenly on April 4, 1933.
Mrs. Chapman was a member of the Presbyterian church and Aid Society and a past member of the Colfax Women’s Club.
Survivors
She is survived by her five children, Archibald, James, Charlie and Mrs. Donald Evans, all of Colfax and Mrs. Harold Schulz of Prairie City, also two granddaughters, Judith Ann Schulz and Susan Ann Evans.
Funeral Services
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 26, from the Presbyterian church with Rev. Henry Wybenga officiating.
Music was furnished by John A. Davis accompanied by Mrs. S. E. Tennant.
Mrs. W. C. Crisman, Mrs. Harry Gregg and Miss Laura Luther had charge of the flowers.
Pall bearers were Dr. R. G. Anspach, Dr. F. E. Boyd, Ralph Cummings, L. A. Martin, Howard Pigg and E. S. Meckley.
Interment was in the family lot in the Colfax cemetery.
