Margaret HARRIS Longcor, the second in a family of 4 children was the daughter of Levi Harris and Catherine (Erwin or Irwin) Harris.

While Margaret was very young, she and her family lived in Hebbardsville, Athens, Ohio, where she attended school and her father was the Sunday School Superintendant of the Methodist Episcopal Church. While Margaret was still very young, she and her family moved from Hebbardsville to Elkhart County, Indiana and then to Jasper County, Iowa.

Margaret, at the age of 18, started courting a young man by the name of William Longcor, who was a veteran of the Civil War and a local hero. Their courtship didn't last long for on July 4, 1866 in Newton, Jasper, Iowa, she and William wed.

The couple settled on a homestead which William farmed in Greencastle, Jasper, Iowa and where the first six of their thirteen children were born. For various reasons, the family packed up and moved to Smith County, Kansas for a short time wand then later moved back to Greencastle, Jasper, Iowa.

Together, they were the parents of Sharlottie, Almira, William, Drewzella, Mary Lurettie, Luella, Edward Freemont, Electa, Lawrence, Robert, Addie Louise, Albert Alonzo, and Lewis Isaac.

On February 22, 1907 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa Margaret passed from this earth leaving her beloved William all alone. On February 24, she was laid to rest in McKeever Cemetery next to her daughter Mary and son Isaac.
