Dan C. Toedt

Dan Carl Toedt, 84, of 200 W. 12th St. S., a resident of Newton since moving from a farm northeast of Newton in 1965, died this morning, July 9, at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 10.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Gwendolyn; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Venis of Cedar Rapids; two step-sons, Robert and Keith Hefley, both of Newton; a step-daughter, Mrs. James (Irene) Addey of Des Moines; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grand children.

Also surviving are two brothers, Chester and Leo Toedt, both of Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Frances Moffett of Mc Allen, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, the former Dieuwke Kate Kalma; a brother, Herbert, and a sister, Hulda Elick.

The son of Herman Phillip and Ida Tinnermeier Toedt, he was born Aug. 28, 1899 in Mariposa Township and attended Jasper County schools.

He was married to Gwendolyn Gearhart Hefley Jan. 8, 1972 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 9 July 1984 Page 2.
