Dixie went home to meet her Lord surrounded by her family on September 4, 2016 in Newton, Iowa. Dixie Lucille Davis of Newton was born to Stanley and Josie (Scrivens) Davis on February 18, 1931. Dixie was one of 9 children and grew up in Unionville, Missouri. She attended country schools until the 8th grade. At the age of 13 she left the family farm and moved to town where she worked as a nanny. She later moved to Newton and worked at the Maytag Blue Cheese Factory. When she was about 18, she returned to Unionville where she worked at the Airport Café. It was here she met her future husband, Donald (Bill) Burns. They were united in marriage on January 22, 1950 in Unionville. In 1955 they moved to Iowa to find a better life for their family. In December 1960 they bought a small acreage south of Prairie City, where the blacktop ends and over 50 years of living in a wonderful neighborhood began. In 2005 Dixie decided to move to Monroe since Bill had passed away and their little acreage just wasn't the same without him.

In 2013 Dixie moved the Park Centre in Newton, Iowa.

Dixie's greatest love was her husband Bill and her family. They enjoyed camping, riding horses and mules, gardening, playing cards and just being together. While Dixie had 14 Grandchildren of her own, she was called Grandma by many others. Dixie welcomed everyone to her dinner table. She didn't love to cook but she loved company and was always able pull off a decent meal at a moment's notice. Everyone knew they were welcome. Through example, Dixie taught her children to be compassionate, courageous and strong. Not only did they work together as a family, but they played together as a family, and they always will.

Dixie was a natural caregiver, always putting everyone's needs before her own. She raised 5 kids, sometimes by herself since Bill's work often took him out of town. She worked at the Clearview Manor Nursing Home, babysat for several years and was always ready to go help a friend or a neighbor or even a stranger when they were in need. Dixie was a member of the Prairie City Christian Church. She also belonged the Rebekahs and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Dixie is survived by her children Pat (Rich) Pendroy, Mike (Patty) Burns, Shelda (Pete) Logsdon, Shirley (Mick) Hotovec, Wayne (Brenda) Burns; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three sisters-in-law. Dixie was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents; brother's Homer, Glen, Robert and Melvin and sisters Jean Burns, Opal Probasco, Lois Nalley and Betty Davis.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City Church of the Brethren. Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Percy Fair and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 4 Sept 2016.
