Michael Eugene Osborn

"Little Oz"

Michael was born to Lloyd Eugene Osborn (Big Oz) and Corinne (Price) Osborn of Prairie City, Iowa on November 13, 1952. He entered into the eternal arms of his savior on Monday March 16, 2015 at the age of 62 years 4 months and 3 days.

Michael attended Prairie City Schools. He enlisted in the United States Marines during the Viet Nam conflict in February of 1970, left active service in February of 1973 and was in the Marine reserves until February 1976. He reached the rank of Master Sergeant. He earned the Rifle Expert Badge, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was very proud of his service to his country--Once a Marine always a Marine! SEMPER FI!!!

He married Pamela Skeffington of Mitchellville, Iowa. Two boys were born during this union.

Michael chose to follow in his father's footsteps and spend his adult life in the trucking industry--mostly as an owner-operator. He travelled coast to coast, border to border and beyond. He made lifelong friends everywhere he went. He had previously lived in Cleveland, Ohio, and for the last several years resided in Hempstead, Texas. He returned to Iowa in the late summer of 2014 after learning of his terminal cancer diagnosis. He eventually moved in with his older sister in Stratford, Iowa and then 5 days before he passed he moved to Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center where he continued on hospice care.

At Michael's request his ashes will be buried at the Vandalia Cemetery with Graveside Services held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. The family invites friends and family to join them in a Celebration of Life at the Prairie City Community Building immediately following interment. We plan to enjoy a light lunch of Michael's favorite things. For your convenience the Community Building will open at noon on Saturday, the 11th of April.

Michael is survived by his mother, Corinne of Stratford, Iowa, his sister Penny also of Stratford, and his sister Paula (Don) Stockton of Johnston, Iowa. He is also survived by Michael and Marty Osborn and Michael's children. He also leaves behind a niece and nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins and his many good friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Eugene, his grandparents, and an uncle.

The family wishes to thank all who also loved him--the staff at Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center, Care initiatives Hospice Team, the VA Palliative Care Team and all of his life long buddies of the long and winding highway. ~ The Johnson Funeral Service, Newton, Iowa 16 Mar 2015.
