Helen E. Grosvenor, 101, of Newton died on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center. Helen Jacops Grosvenor was born May 7, 1913, to Albert Lee and Charity (Schermerhorn) Jacops on a farm near Rushville, Iowa. At the age of 3, the family moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota, but shortly after, her father was killed in a shooting accident, and the family came to Newton to live with John and Myrtle Schermerhorn. Her mother married Jess Riley when Helen was 16. Helen graduated from Newton High School. Helen married Delmar Grosvenor in 1933, and they lived on a farm five miles east of Newton for 60 years. They picked corn and put up hay together, using horses and wagon. Their daughters, Judy and Joyce, were born there.

Helen was a 4-H leader, superintendent of Sunday schools and Bible schools; sang with the Japer County Women’s Chorus, joining other Iowa counties as they sang for the Iowa Sesquicentennial in Washington D.C. in 1950; and was a member of the neighborhood Farm Bureau Club for many years. She enjoyed oil painting, sewing, reading, writing, and being with family, friends, and neighbors. She also liked sending cards and emails on her I-Pad to all.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather, and many other loved ones. Those left to honor Helen’s memory are her daughters, Judy (Frank) Aiello and Joyce (Tom) Ringgenberg; sister-in-law, LaVonne Riley; her grandchildren, Seth (Linda) Ringgenberg, Tim (Marie) Ringgenberg, Rose Helen (Steve) Carlson, and Dominic Aiello; 7 great-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. Helen lived a life of love and praise for our Lord. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 4 Apr 2015.
