Henry C. Birkenholz, Jr., 85, a longtime Newton realtor died on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Presbyterian Church may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service.

Henry was a lifelong resident of Jasper County, being born in Monroe on April 29, 1929 and residing in Newton most of his life. Henry graduated from Newton High School in 1947 and became a real estate broker at the age of 21. His lifelong profession was real estate, retiring in 1981. He was a founding member and president of the Newton Board of Realtors in 1963 and 1964, for 20 years he was the local V.A. and F.H.A. Regional Housing Appraiser, and served as the Liquidating Manager of the Lincoln Court Housing Project. Henry was instrumental in the development of the east side of Newton, both commercial and residential. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League.

Henry married Jane Kingery in 1962 and they were blessed with three sons, Larry (Lynette), Daniel (Ronda), both of Newton and Scott of Mesa, Arizona; five grandchildren, Ryan (Becky Soderholm) Birkenholz, J.D. (Sarah) Birkenholz, Renee (Rodrigo) Hidalgo, Lisa (Kyle) Jurgensen, and Dallas (C.J.) Crow; and 10 great-grandchildren, Addison, Jackson, Ryder, Sutton, Camille, Jazelle, Preston, Andrew, Lauren, and Genevieve. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mima (Montgomery) Birkenholz and a brother Carroll. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 29 Mar 2015.
